Welcome to New Life Children's Centre Website!
Introduction
The work of the New Life Children’s Centres in The Gambia began in 1995 with the setting up of its main school at Kanifing, in the Serrekunda area in 1997.
Today there are 2 schools at: Kanifing and Half-Dye providing full time education for more than 1300 children. Taking into account our outreaches from the Centres and Christian Programmes we are reaching over 2000 children.
Schools
The Centre at Kanifing provides education for Nursery, Primary and Junior Secondary students up to Grade 9 whilst the school at Half Dye is for younger children. However, there are some older ones in this schools due to the fact that if a child begins school at a much later age, they begin learning the basics at nursery level and then progress through the classes. When the children reach the required standard for Primary school they are then transferred to our main Kanifing site.
Geography
The Gambia is the smallest country in West Africa bordering the North Atlantic Ocean and completely surrounded by Senegal. The capital is Banjul. Gambia is one of the poorest nations in Africa. Most of the homes are made of mud and corrugated sheets, without the most basic of facilities.
In a country of 1.5 million with approximately half the population under 14, the average age being 17, with 85% of the population Muslim, life expectancy just 52, the work of New Life Children’s Centres is making a huge difference in the lives of these African children.
Directors and staff
The directors of the work are Ken and Sylvia Morgan based at the Everyday Champions Centre, Newark. A management board consists of 8 trustees who are responsible to the Charity Commissioners for the operating of the charity.
In The Gambia, 55 full time staff including teachers, administrators and outreach workers are employed. All these are committed Christians.
